Mischa Tranquilli (Connecticut, United States 1992) began drawing and painting from a young age. As a child, she realized her desire to become a fine artist while studying from her grandfather Walter Tranquilli, a skilled draftsman and sculptor whose family emigrated to the United States from Italy.
Mischa's dedication to pursuing a classical fine arts education led her back to her family's ancestral country when she was 20, where she would go on to study at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence. While she was a student, she and her work were featured in a 2016 episode of Campus Italia, a program highlighting students in Italian vocational schools. After four years of full-time study, she graduated from the Academy's core programme in 2017 and moved to The Netherlands, where she currently divides her time between teaching and painting. Mischa is especially interested in portraiture, with particular focus on painting from life, which she feels is integral to her painting practice and philosophy. In 2018, her figurative work won first place in The Representational Art Conference international juried exhibition in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. Her work has exhibited and sold in private collections in North America and Europe. |
