Course Description
The Neo-Baroque art style is a captivating fusion of the grandeur and ornate aesthetics of the Baroque period, incorporated with contemporary elements, themes, and techniques. Color plays a crucial role in this style, allowing artists to utilize a rich and vibrant palette which adds to the overall dramatic effect of the artwork.
In this course, nationally acclaimed American artist Teresa Oaxaca will present her approach to painting the Neo-Baroque portrait from life. The model will be draped and posed with a joyful backdrop full of colorful fabrics and flowers, typical of Teresa's signature style.
Teresa will provide painting demonstrations each morning of class, addressing concepts involved in setting up a good composition, building an expressive likeness, materials, values, colors, edges, brushstrokes, etc. and answering student questions.
Students will establish their own portrait paintings from the model in the afternoons, with individual attention and feedback from Teresa. A strong emphasis is placed on creating a powerful and aesthetically compelling painting, with attention on artistic design, understanding of values, the importance of edges, expressive brushstrokes, and effective use of color.
This course is especially suited for artists with some prior experience working with oils, who are looking to take their work to the next level.Tuition
