Course Description
In this five-day workshop with acclaimed artist Romel de la Torre, students will learn to paint the model in costume fully from life using an indirect painting approach.
Students will explore painting strategies that capture the “feeling” of light, and learn to combine the representational portrait with abstract shapes to create compelling compositions. In addition to demonstrating his expressive painting process, Romel will also lead the group in discussions on the techniques of some of his favorite historical artists, such as Sargent, Sorolla, Zorn, and more.
Over the course of the workshop, students will complete two paintings from live models in costume, learning to improve their use of color, drawing skills, value relationships, and edge quality. Romel will also discuss the technical aspect of his personal painting practice, including the materials he uses and tips on how to set up models in pose with successful lighting.
On what to expect, Romel says: "Be prepared to work hard, make new friends, and best of all - have fun!"Tuition
