AI and the Impact on Creatives
Lecture by Eva Toorenent
The rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly shaken up the creative industry. As users generate images, video, audio, and text at the click of a button, there are growing concerns among artists that the human element of creativity is poised to be replaced.
But how does this mysterious technology work? Does generative AI actually "create" art, or does it depend on the work of human artists? What impact has the introduction of this new technology made on art and its creators? And perhaps the most pertinent question on the minds of many artists: is any of this legal?
In this lecture, artist and illustrator Eva Toorenent will talk about the effect of generative AI on the creative industry. She also explains what artists can do to protect their copyrighted work against AI companies and their irrevocable hunger for data.
Eva Toorenent, also known as Evaboneva, is an up-and-coming creature designer and artist from The Netherlands. She specializes in creating cute/creepy art that tells a story. Her creations have been featured in multiple publications, galleries, and entertainment-based productions.
Since 2022, she has been the Dutch advisor to EGAIR (European Guild of Artificial Intelligence Regulation). Together, they fight for new regulations and laws surrounding parasitic generative AI technologies. EGAIR does this by lobbying politicians and the European Parliament.
