Rutger van Bruggen (1987) lives and works as a fine art painter in the South-Holland town of Gorinchem.
From a young age, he has been fascinated by the works of the old masters and the intricacies of their crafts. Originally he wanted to become a blacksmith, but found his way into the world of painting when he was in his late teens. After beginning as a self-taught painter, Rutger pursued classical training in drawing and painting since 2018. He has studied with Andreas Birath, Danny Ferland, Patrick Byrnes, and has been a student at DARA since 2019, where he was eventually asked to teach. From his hometown Gorinchem, Rutger paints still lifes, portraits, land- and seascapes sometimes large and sometimes tiny. Both classical and contemporary subjects can be seen in his art, but a love for studying the masters stays visible in his work. Rutger also very much likes going out and painting en plein air.
