Plein air sketch sessions are an opportunity for extracurricular study available to DARA students to draw or paint the landscape together outdoors: a uniquely challenging but rewarding setting to study ideas about light, color, perspective, and composition.
GENERAL INFORMATION
CAN I ATTEND IF I HAVE NEVER BEEN A STUDENT AT DARA?
No, not at this time.
HOW DO I SIGN UP TO JOIN THE GROUP?
Check the box for the plein air sketch group when you apply to a part-time course during the Spring Trimester. This study group is seasonal and does not take place during the Fall or Winter trimesters.
If you are not currently enrolled in a part-time class, but you have been a student at DARA in a past trimester or workshop, please contact Mischa Tranquilli if you are interested in attending.
WHERE DOES THE GROUP SKETCH?
We choose a different location in and around Haarlem each session (typically within 30 to 40 minutes walking distance from the studio.) Group members can meet at the studio first and depart for the outing together. In case of bad weather, sessions may be rescheduled or moved to a different location.
IS IT REQUIRED TO JOIN EVERY SESSION?
No.
WHAT MATERIALS DO I NEED TO BRING?
You can draw or sketch in any preferred medium. Field easels & drawing boards are provided by the studio. You are responsible for bringing all other materials.
GENERAL RULES
- Ask permission before taking photos of someone else's work.
- Clean up after yourself outside, and leave the area in the same condition you found it.
- Any items you borrow from the studio (field easels, boards, etc.) are picked up from the studio yourself and transported to the outing. At the end of the session, you return these items to the studio.
