Course Description
Join Mexican-American artist Diego Glazer in this unique still life painting workshop, exploring the juxtaposition of life and death in the theme of skulls and flora. Students work fully from life, from floral arrangements and (animal) skulls provided by DARA.
Diego will teach an indirect oil painting approach, in which a painting is built up in multiple layers. He will cover various advanced techniques including glazing (painting in transparent layers,) scumbling, and scraping.
With these strategies, it's possible to achieve beautiful effects that are rich in texture and color, and to create depth that can only be achieved by layering oil paints.
The very different textures and aesthetic qualities of skulls and florals present an ideal subject matter to explore these techniques, and also serve as a backdrop to explore the narrative potential in the still life genre. This symbolic exploration embodies the cycle of life, mortality, and the ephemeral nature of beauty.Tuition
