Course Description
In this five-day workshop with Mexican painter César Meza, students will study an academic approach to creating a highly refined portrait from the live model, starting with drawing and completing with painting in oils.
Students will follow a step-by-step approach to creating a precise block-in drawing in graphite, which will then be transferred onto a primed canvas or wood panel and completed in oil paints.
César will guide students with daily demonstrations and deep personal critiques through each stage of the process. This course emphasizes fundamental academic skills, such as creating a close likeness to the model with a precise drawing, mixing accurate colors, modelling three-dimensional form, to final rendering and more.
Painters who are looking to strengthen their portrait painting process will find the academic methods taught in this course invaluable to strengthening their artistic practice.Tuition
