Course Description
In this five-day workshop with award-winning artist Anton Nowels, students will learn how to move between painting landscapes en plein air (outdoors) to finishing in the studio.
Students will attain an understanding of how to integrate the plein air tradition with contemporary perspectives in both representational and abstract painting, learning a process for developing studio work from plein air experimentation.
This workshop will include discussions of artists using both plein air and representational abstraction in their work including: Richard Diebenkorn, Eric Aho, Sergei Bongart, Maynard Dixon, Franz Kline, Monet, Josef Albers, Joan Mitchell and more.
The workshop begins and ends in the studio, while days 2, 3, and 4 take place outdoors. Anton will demonstrate both landscape painting en plein air and representational abstraction in the studio, encouraging students to develop strategies to maintain the liveliness and spontaneity of painting outdoors in their finished works made in the studio.Tuition
