Working on Commissions:

A Professional Perspective
In this lecture, Edo Fuijkschot offers an in-depth look into his professional practice as an artist who regularly works on commission. Drawing on years of experience, he will share personal insights, real-world examples, and lessons learned from working closely with clients.

Expect to learn about topics relevant to both emerging and established artists, including:

  • Building successful relationships with clients
  • Balancing artistic integrity with external expectations
  • Navigating the creative process, from the initial concept to final delivery
  • Managing time and priorities in a professional practice
  • Positioning yourself within the art world
  • Developing a thoughtful and realistic approach to pricing your work

The lecture will conclude with a Q&A session, offering space for discussion and audience questions.

Whether you’re a student or hobbyist thinking about your future as a professional artist, or you're a practicing artist looking to refine and strengthen your career, this lecture offers valuable insight into the realities of commissioned work. All are welcome!

Edo Fuijkschot is an experienced fine artist whose work has been exhibited widely. After a successful career as an illustrator and animator across four continents, he pivoted to classical drawing and painting, with an emphasis on the figure, portrait, and still life genres.

Edo's work recently won him first place on the television programme Sterren op het Doek, in which he and his fellow contestants were tasked with painting the portrait of Dutch darts champion Raymond van Barneveld. He has been shortlisted for multiple awards for his work, and brings a broad professional perspective shaped by both his independent studio practice and commissioned projects.

In addition to his own artistic career, Edo is an instructor of figure drawing in DARA's Trimester Programme, where he shares his experience and knowledge with the next generation of artists.

Studio doors open at 18:15 for a welcome reception, and Edo's lecture and Q&A session begins at 19:00. Parking is free and is available directly in front of the studio building.
