The Trimester Programme is the most intensive level of academic training currently offered at DARA.

This programme is intended for figurative artists who are seeking full-time or part-time academic study in traditional drawing and painting. Courses are led by classically trained artists, and are offered on a basis of three-month trimesters. Students work fully from direct observation, balancing visual sensitivity and technical skill with conceptual understanding. Admittance into courses is application-based.

When & How to Apply

1) Check the upcoming trimester dates.
"General Registration" indicates when applications are open to everyone.

2) Apply on time.
When applications are open, click on any course thumbnail and then click "Apply." This will direct you to an application form to be completed online.

Unlike workshops and bootcamps, admittance into the Trimester Programme is application-based. More advanced courses have stricter entrance criteria.

What is 'Early Bird Registration'?
Students who are continuing from one trimester to the next are able to apply first. Early Birds are also eligible for a discount. Only current students are invited to apply during this period.

Early Bird Registration: 23 to 27 June
General Registration: 30 June to 16 September
Trimester Dates: 22 September to 7 December

Winter Trimester 2026
Early Bird Registration Starts: 6 to 10 October
General Registration Starts: 13 October to 30 December
Trimester Dates: 5 January to 22 March

Spring Trimester 2026
Early Bird Registration Starts: 6 to 10 January
General Registration Starts: 13 January to 1 April
Trimester Dates: 7 April to 21 June*
* The trimester begins on a Tuesday, as the studio is closed on 6 April (Easter Monday.) A make-up session for classes which are normally held on Mondays is scheduled on Friday 10 April.
