GENERAL INFORMATION
CAN I ATTEND IF I HAVE NEVER BEEN A STUDENT AT DARA?
No, not at this time.
HOW DO I SIGN UP TO JOIN THE GROUP?
Check the box for the portrait sketch group when you apply to a part-time course during the Fall, Winter or Spring Trimester.
If you are not currently enrolled in a part-time class, but you have been a student at DARA in a past trimester or workshop, please contact Mischa Tranquilli if you are interested in attending.
THE STUDENTS VOLUNTEER AS THE MODELS?
Yes. Every student who joins to sketch agrees that he or she will volunteer as the portrait model (fully clothed) at least once per trimester. This is how the group remains free. New students should volunteer first.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO AS THE MODEL?
As the model, you will be directed into an (easy) pose, which you will sustain for the entire two hour session. (There is a 5-minute break every 25 minutes.) While posing, you remain still and direct your gaze at a fixed point in the room. You are welcome to wear headphones to listen to music/a podcast/etc.
IS IT REQUIRED TO JOIN EVERY SESSION?
No.
WHAT MATERIALS DO I NEED TO BRING?
You can draw or sketch in any preferred medium. Easels & drawing boards are provided by the studio. You are responsible for bringing all other materials.
GENERAL RULES
- Ask permission before taking a photo of the model. Not everyone is comfortable with pictures.
- Easel selection starts at 15:00. Easels are chosen first-come, first-served.
- No talking while the model is in pose.
- Clean up after yourself and leave the studio in the same condition you found it.
- If you join to sketch even one time, you must volunteer once during the trimester as the model.
