- Recommended level: all levels welcome, some drawing experience is ideal
In this intensive 5-day workshop with Canadian painter Danny Ferland, students will work from the live model in clothing/costume, with additional accessories including hats and scarves.
The workshop begins with a live demonstration from Danny, emphasizing compositional design, likeness, and accurate color. His approach starts with a preliminary drawing in vine charcoal to establish structure, followed by an impressionistic pointillist approach, in which brushstrokes are applied in a mosaic of color tiles. This unique method gives a sense of strength to the finished work, achieving a vibrancy of complex color that vibrates throughout the painting.
Following this, students will complete two different model paintings over the duration of the course, painting from both male and female models. Danny will offer constructive critique and demos throughougt the workshop, guiding his students through the process of achieving a convincing variety of flesh tones and textures to create figure paintings that live and breathe. - INCLUDED MATERIALS: DARA provides prepared & toned fine-weave linen canvas (size 50x60cm)
The following materials are required for participation in this workshop.

(*Please note that applicants under age 18 must have their parent or legal guardian provide express written permission via email that states that the applicant may be enrolled.)

After submitting a registration form, the student will be sent an email notification within 48 hours as to the status of his or her acceptance in the workshop. The Dutch Atelier of Realist Art (DARA) reserves the right to refuse enrollment to any new or returning students deemed by the studio administration to be out of line with the programme's stated mission and policies, and/or disruptive to the studio and its attendees.
Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and it is therefore advisable for students to sign up for courses early while spaces are available. Spaces are very limited in order to ensure that each student receives a high level of individual attention and one-on-one instruction. All students agree to adhere to our Studio Policies as a condition of their continued enrollment in any workshop offered at DARA. Students are expected to maintain a professional working environment at all times by respecting themselves, fellow students, models, guests, and instructors.
Students are expected to arrive to class on time and with the appropriate required materials in order to participate in the workshop. During the course, each student is provided with storage space to store his or her art supplies, artwork, and personal belongings. DARA accepts no responsibility for the damage, loss, or theft of student property, except in cases solely attributable to the misconduct of a DARA staff member.STUDIO CANCELLATIONS

In the event that this enrollment level is not attained, students will be notified 60 days in advance of the start of the course, and will be offered the option of either receiving a full refund* or transferring to a different course of their choosing (provided that space is available.) All refunds are processed within 7 days of studio cancellations.
During the workshop, if a single class session is cancelled for any reason, DARA will notify all students of the cancellation by phone and email. Every effort will be made to schedule a make-up class at a time convenient for the majority of students. Refunds for cancelled class sessions are awarded only in the event that no make-up class is scheduled. DARA reserves the right to substitute instructors and/or models during a class if no alternative is available.
*Please note that in the event of a studio cancellation, DARA is only responsible for refunding the cost of tuition, and not for any of the student's associated expenses, such as travel fare and/or purchase of class materials.STUDENT CANCELLATIONS
