Narrative Art: The Importance of Storytelling
In this lecture, pop surrealism artist and illustrator Eva Toorenent will discuss how storytelling can enhance and deepen the impact of your work. Eva will share her thought process and the backstory behind her gallery paintings, commercial projects, and creature designs.
During this talk, you will see examples of how a story can transform a regular painting into something more meaningful, learn how to use a story to create a strong connection with your audience, and discover how adding personal narrative to your work strengthens your relationship with your own art.
This will be a fantastic opportunity to network with a working artist with time for questions and conversation. All are welcome!

Eva Toorenent is a freelance artist and illustrator with expertise in fantasy, surreal, and imaginative art. She studied illustration at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and, upon graduating, dedicated her career to creating art full-time.
Her creations have been featured in multiple publications, galleries, and entertainment-based productions. In 2020, Eva wrote and illustrated her first book, The Wonderful World of Eva (published by Clavis Publishing). The book is filled with whimsical and strange creatures she encountered in childhood. Eva specializes in creating “cute creepy art that tells a story.” Laura Zoon, editor of the publication Playgrounds says of Eva's work, "The way she uses elements from nature and combines different animals gives her world a natural feeling, blurring the line between her dream-like universe and the real world. Her surreal world is a perfect mixture of spooky, mysterious, and cute." |
Studio doors open at 18:15 for a welcome reception, and Eva's lecture and Q&A session begins at 19:00. Parking is free and is available directly in front of the studio building.
