Are you new to oil painting and curious how to get started? Or perhaps you already have some experience with painting but would like to broaden your technical knowledge? This compact 3-day workshop is ideal for you!
This course covers a variety of fundamental principles of oil painting, including:- The correct usage of basic materials (palettes, brushes, mediums);
- What is the use of a toned canvas and how to apply it to your work effectively;
- General safety practices (how to clean brushes properly, working safely with toxic pigments, and more);
- Examining the technical properties of various oil pigments, and understanding the differences between them;
- The study of light and shadow, and how to depict light in your paintings to create three-dimensional form;
- Basic color theory and color mixing;
- How to handle and apply paint confidently to achieve convincing form.
Over the first two days of the course, students will complete simple exercises pertaining to tonal value and color, and become familiar with the basics of oil painters' tools and pigments. On the final day of the course, students will apply everything they have learned to slightly more challenging studies, painting simple still life arrangements from life.
By the end of this course, students will both improve their knowledge of the technical aspect of oil painting, and also achieve a solid grasp of the fundamentals of painting in order to develop their own personal work. - Included Materials: DARA provides universal-prepared cotton canvas.
