Course Description
This workshop offers an in-depth exploration of composition and design, giving you tools to apply academic principles to your own studio work beyond the classroom. Over five days, Mina will guide you through a variety of disciplines including still life drawing and working from the live model in order to explore fundamental of pictorial composition. This course combines demonstrations, guided practice, and individual critiques with both short and long drawing studies, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the art of picture-making.
You’ll discover how to use value, contrast, edge quality, and texture to guide the viewer’s eye and create compositions that feel intentional and dynamic. While working from observation, the focus is on developing your own creative approach, using your subject as a springboard for design rather than simply copying what you see. The workshop also addresses the limitations of materials and how to use your tools to suggest and evoke what you see, rather than exactly replicate what's in front of you.
This workshop is an excellent opportunity for artists looking to deepen your understanding of composition and strengthen your ability to develop original ideas in drawing. It’s particularly valuable for students who want to take your academic practice beyond the classroom and explore more creative, intentional approaches to your work.
